School Meals, Milk and Fruit

Lunchtime

At Lake View we have a cafeteria style lunch with a choice of two hot meals or a salad, after which there is a further choice of desserts.

The meals are prepared at school; the standard of hygiene is excellent and the choices are always appetising and well presented.

All meals provided meet the requirements of Government Healthy Eating Standards.

Pupils may also bring a packed lunch which we encourage to be healthy.  All pupils are provided with water – no fizzy drinks are allowed.

We ask that our pupils are either sandwiches or school dinners for the full half-term to assist our kitchen staff with the pre-ordering of food.

Children are under the direct supervision of caring mid-day staff.  All pupils are expected to follow the school rules and the directions of the midday supervisors.

As I am sure you are all aware from September 2014 all infant aged children (Foundation 2, Year 1 and Year 2 classes) will receive their dinner time meal free of charge (Unversal Free School Meals).  Payment for school dinners for children in Years 3 and above must be sent in an envelope (marked with the child’s name) on a Monday morning (£2.29 per day, £11.45 per week).  Details and application forms for free school meals are available from Nottinghamshire County Council.  You can contact them on:  0300 500 8080, or alternatively we can help you with this.  Please speak to the school office.

Our school milk scheme

We are launching a brand new school milk scheme that is available to all of our pupils and would like to invite you to register your child to receive a carton of fresh, chilled semi-skimmed milk every day. The milk scheme is:

  • Completely free for all under-fives
  • Completely free for all children entitled to free school meals

In order for your child to benefit from this scheme it is important that you register, and pay if applicable. Only those children who are registered will receive milk- even if they are entitled to free milk.

The new milk scheme is great for Lake View Primary School and pupils because it:

  • Provides new quick and easy ways to pay including online card payment
  • Supports the local economy by sourcing local milk wherever possible
  • Allows milk to start at any point during the term
  • Removes all administration from the school, freeing up vital resources
  • Allows you to manage your school milk account online
  • Works in partnership with Change4life to help promote healthy lifestyles
  • Provides freephone customer support
  • Is endorsed by health professionals such as BBC Breakfast’s Dr Rosemary Leonard
  • Ensures that milk is delivered fresh and chilled straight to your child’s classroom

My child is under-five and/ or entitled to free school meals- how do I register?

  • Just register at www.coolmilk.com/register.
  • If/ when your child is no longer eligible for free milk you will receive a payment request. If you wish your child to continue to receive school milk simply make a payment using one of the easy payment methods.
